Latin animal mineral name: Perilla frutescens ( L. ) Britton
Harvest and storage: in autumn when the fruit is ripe, cut from old stems, removing fruit and foliage, dried.

Verticillaster 2 flower, growing group of 1.5-15cm, densely villous, bias towards the side of the terminal and axillary racemes; bracts broadly ovate or suborbicular, outside the red brown glandular, margin membranous; pedicels densely pilose; calyx campanulate, 10 veins, lower pilose, with yellow glands the inner surface of the larynx, sparsely pilose ring, fruit enlargement, calyx mast two lip, upper lip wide, 3 teeth, tooth in the smaller, lower lip slightly longer than 2 teeth, teeth, skin needle; corolla usually white, corolla tube short, limb nearly two 2-lipped, upper lip emarginate, labium 3 crack, in larger lobes; stamens 4, anterior to the slightly longer, free, inserting raw throat, anther locules 2; style apex 2 lobed; disk front finger-shaped enlargement. Nutlets subglobose, with reticulate. Flowering of 8-11 months, fr. 8-12.

Character identification dried stems, leaves are deciduous, often with ear. Stem rounded four square, square groove, surface yellow-green, easy to break; section xylem yellow-white, center has a loose white pulp. Residues of the blade, shrinkage, crimp or broken is not whole, dark green, abaxially light, both sides with white hair. Gas smell, taste slightly bitter spice.
