Cymes terminal, capitate or under a verticillaster; bracts of rhombic ovate, margin with spines, often purplish, each bract axils with flower 3; bracteoles absent; calyx tubular, long 7-9mm, upper cleft oblique, margin villous and toothed spines, irregularly; flowers, diameter 1.2-1.5cm; corolla this red, funnel-shaped barrel, up to 4cm, lobes 5, oblong, long 5-6mm, apex retuse, corolla tube 4-5mm wide; stamens 4, corolla throat side higher than the stamens; style, stigma capitate, ovary cup-shaped involucre in small package. Achenes oblong obovate, yellow-white, a vertical groove, night calyx grew up, with purple. Flowering of 6-8 months, fr. 7-9.
